Personal Development through horsemanship

HorseBack UK inspires positive change, encourages confidence and self-esteem, and promotes recovery in an individual. Using horsemanship and outdoor activities, we deliver nationally accredited personal development and wellbeing programmes which offer our participants new coping strategies, life skills and the tools to build resilience.

HorseBack UK is a charity set up to empower service personnel and veterans suffering from life-changing injuries and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and to aid them on their road to recovery.
The success of the first five years of courses for military personnel has allowed HorseBack UK to extend its remit and is now able to focus on the wider community.
Teenagers participate in a 15-day SQA Level 4 Certificate in Personal Development Through Horsemanship.
Over the past three years HorseBack UK has established a unique leadership and team building experience.
In the late summer of 2020 whilst chaos and fear reigned due to the COVID 19 pandemic Jock wanted to help those who had specifically been affected by it within the NHS and Care Home Systems.
We deliver the Team Programme, a twelve week course for young people between the ages of sixteen and twenty-five.

🤩 We are SO proud of Maizie! 🎄 🌟

Maizie Duncan, a talented 15-year-old student from Aboyne Academy, joined us on our Schools Personal Development Course last year – and wow, what an incredible young person she is.

Maizie is a very artistic, highly creative and talented young person. So much so, she has created her very own colouring book, featuring all of her own original artwork – and even more amazingly, it’s now professionally published!

Maizie says:

“I’ve always loved drawing and creating doodle art, and this colouring book is a way for me to share my designs with others. Each page is filled with my own doodles for you to bring to life with your own colours and creativity.”

What makes this even more special is that her colouring book supports HorseBack UK, helping people build confidence, resilience and recovery through working with horses. 🐎 ❤️

This would make a fantastic Christmas gift🎅 🎁, and you can purchase Maizie’s colouring book at The Paper Girls in Aboyne or by contacting Leanne Duncan on 013398 86847. By doing so you’ll be supporting both an incredibly talented young local artist and the life-changing work of HorseBack UK.

Thank you Maizie, you are an inspiration, and we are all so very proud of you! 👏🏻 😊

Some very happy photographs from the Youth Development Course. The young people worked so hard to get those certificates, and it was a lovely moment when the presentation happened. We were delighted to have a representative from The King’s Trust on hand to do the honours. The King’s Trust - once The Prince’s Trust - has helped over a million young people in the United Kingdom and has served as an inspiration to us at HorseBack and it’s been tremendous to be involved with them in this mission.

What we especially love about these pictures is you can see how engaged the horses are. (Those faces are always going to make us laugh!) The bond they build with the course participants is an especially touching part of this whole process. We do confess that it gladdens our hearts to see.

When your Youth Development crew take on a task with a high degree of difficulty and absolutely nail it.

You can see how brilliantly today's drill went, as we came to the end of our Youth Development Course, in partnership with the The King's Trust. The photograph captures the moment when the young people rose to the occasion, in front of an audience. But the degree of difficulty is so much more than that - it's everything they have had to overcome since they walked through the HorseBack UK gates. All the doubts and fears and difficulties. Today, we saw the fruits of all that hard work.

We've got a ton of photographs and many stories, and we'll put those up over the few days. It really was a moving morning. We are very proud! Well done, everyone.
